Miata Roof Rack ?
Revo-Rack Black From $409.95
Revo-Rack PA From $489.95
Revo-Rack is a unique luggage rack, as most Miata's have a fabric roof its pretty hard to attach a Miata Roof Rack. Revo-Rack eliminates the risk of paint damage, caused by steel clamps or straps on the trunk lid edges. It fits every MX5/Miata made including the RF & PRHT/ Roadster coupe, the roof can be operated on both with the rack in place. We developed Revo-Rack in 2015 for the ND fourth generation Miata and it went on sale in 2016
With the Revo-Rack no metal touches your Miata's trunk lid or comes within 2" of it. We utilise soft rubber vacuum cups these use the pressure of the atmosphere to secure the rack to your Mazda's trunk they are not suction cups. We have been manufacturing the Revo-Rack since late 2015 and offer two finishes powder coated black or hand polished and anodised. Both racks are made from the same T5 aluminium and magnesium 1" tube, following Mazda's ethos of a light two seater convertible ; Why put a heavy 10lb stainless rack on your trunk ?
Revo-Rack attaches to your Miata using vacuum cup technology, these are not suction cups. Suction is what creates vacuum. Vacuum is the total absence of air whereas suction is the process done to achieve a vacuum. The grey buttons on the side of the cups pump out the air creating a huge, securing force.
In 2015 Revo-Rack was independently certified by TUV Italy part of the global TUV testing and certification business. It went through speed, braking and force tests, to ISO 11154:2006 Revo-Rack passed all these tests and is certified to carry 20kg/45lbs. Since 2016 we have sold over 10,000 Revo-Racks and never had a failure. See the full test criteria here. It's certified to ISO 11154 the international standard for car roof bars and is the only luggage rack in the world certified to this level.
Why a Revo-Rack instead of a Miata Roof Rack ?
- No clamps on the fragile trunk/deck lid edges.
- Lightweight precision made alloy frame
- No bolts
- No drilling
- No 3M clear tape under clamps to protect paint - great on the first use but after that ?
- Genuine independent feedback from existing customers via Trustpilot read what they think.
- No Straps across the trunk/deck lid surface that with time leave indentations and compress paint
- Safe to use with the aluminium trunk lid on the ND & RF
- Roof operation is possible with rack fitted on the NC Roadster / PRHT model & RF with the rack in place
- Conceived, designed and engineered for the Miata's 1/8" 2-3mm panel gaps where fitting a conventional rack on the trunk edges will at some point cause damage
- Revo-Racks load carrying capacity has been certified and tested by TUV Italy at 20kg/45lbs
- Not immediately obvious how to release the rack from the trunk lid - Impossible to pull off, therefore theft is difficult.
- Supplied with luggage straps and a storage bag.
- Tested to ISO 11154 : 2006. Road vehicles - roof carriers
- Shipped with DHL to the USA in 2-5 Days no import tax no state taxes
The Rack Frame :
The Revo-Rack is manufactured from 1" 6063-T5 tubing this is an aluminium and magnesium alloy ( it will never rust ) As a result the rack frame weighs only 1.672kg / 3.6lb The cross bars are machine welded in place to ensure consistency. Revo-Rack measures 36"x17"
The Supports :
The rack is secured to your Miata's trunk using three 5" vacuum cups, rated by the manufacturer as capable of holding an 18kg/40lb load each. Lets be clear these are not suction cups they are totally different.
Vacuum cups employ the force of atmospheric pressure to grip a surface: When a vacuum exists between the cup and the surface on which it is attached, the weight of Earth's atmosphere holds the cup in place with incredible force. Unlike suction cups that produce a vacuum as they pull away from the surface, Revo-Racks vacuum cups use a hand-actuated pump to efficiently remove air from between the rubber pad and the attaching surface thus creating a much more reliable hold. Because the full face of the pad is brought into contact with the car distortion is reduced, allowing the cup to be used with very little risk of damage. Revo-Rack spreads the weight of the rack and cargo over 300cm2, unlike traditional racks that place the weight and pressure over a much much smaller area increasing the risk of damage.
The Revo-Racks vacuum cup's pump feature a plunger with a red line, which serves as a vacuum indicator. Introduced in the1960's, this safety device is still recognized as one of the most reliable warning systems available. A few strokes of the grey plunger evacuate the vacuum pad, causing it to seal securely to the attaching surface. When the cup is attached completely, the plunger stops moving and the red line is hidden within the pump. A visible red line indicates if air has leaked back into the pad, making vacuum insufficient to use the cup. If the red line becomes visible while the cup is in use, a check valve allows the user to re pump the cup without losing the remaining vacuum.
Lifting on the release tab near the edge of the pad allows air to refill the evacuated space, so that the vacuum cup detaches completely. The racks sits 7.5cm / 3" off the trunk lid
We have just completed our second long road trip with the Revo-Rack on the MX-5. This time we did 3,800km, mostly at high freeway speeds, but also plenty of curvy roads, and the rack held fast in all the wind blast and lots of lateral forces. Top up or top down, there was never a worry with the rack and luggage.
We couldn’t be happier with our purchase.

Huge shoutout to the people across the pond at Revo-Rack. They didn’t pay me or anything to endorse them, but the rack is honestly the best possible solution for adding storage capacity to the world’s favorite roadster. It left no marks and I am sure it would work well on other vehicles too. At around $400 the revo-rack seemed expensive at first, but it worked flawlessly and even kept all that camping gear rock steady into triple digit speeds at one point. Plus it’s something that I’ll continue to use in the future.

Dear Anthony,
We are back in Holland after a trip of nearly 5000 KMS through France and Spain....You can see how we packed.
As you can see I used straps for extra safety. The rack was doing very well only one time I had to pump one cup extra.
