Mazda Miata ND RF Luggage Rack
Revo-Rack Black $399
Revo-Rack Polished anodised $475
Revo-Rack is a completely new type of Mazda Miata ND RF Luggage Rack that virtually eliminates the risk of paint damage, caused by steel clamps or straps on the trunk lid edge.
With the Revo-Rack trunk rack no metal touches your Miata ND RF only soft rubber vacuum cups these use the pressure of the atmosphere to secure the rack to your Mazda's trunk. We make two models with the same frame design and same T5 aluminium tubing, one is powder coated black the other is hand polished and then anodised to give it a deep luster.
Revo-Rack attaches to your Mazda Miata ND RF using vacuum cup technology, these are not suction cups. Suction is what creates vacuum. Vacuum is the total absence of air whereas suction is the process done to achieve a vacuum. The grey buttons on the side of the cups pump out the air creating a huge, securing force.
In 2015 Revo-Rack was independently certified by TUV Italy part of the global TUV testing and certification business. It went through speed, braking and force tests, to ISO 11154:2006 Revo-Rack passed all these tests and is certified to carry 20kg/45lbs. Since 2016 we have sold over 10,000 Revo-Racks and never had a failure.
Why a Revo-Rack Mazda Miata ND RF Luggage Rack ?
- No clamps on the fragile aluminium deck/trunk lid edge
- No bolts
- No drilling
- No Straps
- No paint damage
- Tested to ISO/PAS 11154:2006 Road vehicles - Roof load carriers & European Directive for the General Safety 2002/95/CE.
- Conceived, designed and engineered for the MK4/ND MX5/Miata
- Roof Operation is possible with the Revo-Rack fitted
- Due to the 1/8" panel gap on the RF its too small for a traditional clamp to fit, the 45 degree lip inside the boot makes this almost impossible.
- Revo-Racks load carrying capacity has been rated at 45lbs by TUV Italy
- Revo-Rack has been independently tested by TUV Italy. Along with braking and speed tests to a loaded rack they applied a 645N force. A lifting force of around 65kg/145lbs for 10 minutes to a Revo-Rack with a 50lb load on it the rack stayed secure and did not bend or deform . If attached properly Revo-Rack is as secure if not more secure than a traditional clamp rack.
The Rack Frame :
This Miata ND RF luggage rack is manufactured from 1" 6063-T5 tubing this is an aluminium and magnesium alloy ( it will never rust ) As a result the rack frame weighs only 3.6lb perfect for the RF s aluminium boot/trunk lid. The cross bars are machine welded in place to ensure consistency, the rack is powder coated black. The rack measures 36"x17"
If you have a US Miata RF with the shark antenna fin on the trunk lid, you will have to mount the rack as shown this allows roof operation and the rack does not foul the antenna. If your RF has a rear lip spoiler we make a model with an additional hole drilled allowing one vacuum cup to be mounted further back, please make sure you order this model if your RF has the the small spoiler.
The Supports :
The rack is secured to your Miata's RF's trunk lid using three 5" vacuum cups, rated by the manufacturer as capable of holding an 18kg/40lb load each.
Vacuum cups employ the force of atmospheric pressure to grip a surface: When a vacuum exists between the cup and the surface on which it is attached, the weight of Earth's atmosphere holds the cup in place with incredible force. Unlike suction cups that produce a vacuum as they pull away from the surface, Revo-Racks vacuum cups use a hand-actuated pump to efficiently remove air from between the rubber pad and the attaching surface thus creating a much more reliable hold. Because the full face of the pad is brought into contact with the surface, distortion is reduced, allowing the cup to be used with very little risk of damage.
The Revo-Racks vacuum cup's pump feature a plunger with a red line, which serves as a vacuum indicator. Introduced in the1960's, this safety device is still recognized as one of the most reliable warning systems available. A few strokes of the plunger evacuate the vacuum pad, causing it to seal securely to the attaching surface. When the cup is attached completely, the plunger stops moving and the red line is hidden within the pump. A visible red line indicates if air has leaked back into the pad, making vacuum insufficient to use the cup. However, if the red line becomes visible while the cup is in use, a check valve allows the user to re pump the cup without losing the remaining vacuum.
Lifting on the release tab near the edge of the pad allows air to refill the evacuated space, so that the vacuum cup detaches completely. The racks sits 3" off the trunk lid

We have just completed our second long road trip with the Revo-Rack on the MX-5. This time we did 3,800km, mostly at high freeway speeds, but also plenty of curvy roads, and the rack held fast in all the wind blast and lots of lateral forces. Top up or top down, there was never a worry with the rack and luggage.
We couldn’t be happier with our purchase.

Huge shoutout to the people across the pond at Revo-Rack. They didn’t pay me or anything to endorse them, but the rack is honestly the best possible solution for adding storage capacity to the world’s favorite roadster. It left no marks and I am sure it would work well on other vehicles too. At around $400 the revo-rack seemed expensive at first, but it worked flawlessly and even kept all that camping gear rock steady into triple digit speeds at one point. Plus it’s something that I’ll continue to use in the future.
