Mazda MX5 RF Luggage Rack :
Revo-Rack Black £349.95 / $399 / 369€
Revo-Rack PA £439.95 / $475 / 439€
Revo-Rack is a unique design of Mazda MX5 RF Luggage Rack that eliminates the risk of paint damage, caused by steel clamps or straps on the fragile boot/trunk lid edges.
We have been manufacturing the Revo-Rack since 2016 in two finishes black and the PA model which is hand polished and then anodised to create a deep chrome like shine. We only sell direct over the web. All Revo-Racks are supplied with two webbing luggage straps and a storage bag to keep everything in one place until you next use the Revo-Rack.
We designed Revo-Rack in 2015 when the ND/RF was launched. The issue with fitting a conventional metal clamp based luggage rack to the ND/RF is the 2.7mm panel gap - there is no room for a metal clamp.
Revo-Rack attaches to your MX5 using vacuum cup technology, these are not suction cups. Suction is what creates vacuum. Vacuum is the total absence of air whereas suction is the process done to achieve a vacuum. The grey buttons on the side of the cups pump the air out from the cup creating a huge securing force.
In 2015 Revo-Rack was independently certified by TUV Italy part of the global TUV testing and certification business. It went through speed, braking and force tests, to ISO 11154:2006 Revo-Rack passed all these tests and is certified to carry 20kg/45lbs. Since 2016 we have sold over 10,000 Revo-Racks and never had a failure.
We are of course aware that Mazda suggests a maximum load of 10kg for their carbon fibre rack on the ND because of the cars aluminium boot/trunk lid. This clamps on a like a conventional rack with the weight spread over a very small area 20cm².The footprint of the clamps on the edge of the boot/trunk lid.
With a Revo-Rack the load is spread over a much greater area over 300cm² The footprint of the vacuum cups. Hence the Revo-Rack can carry a greater load of 20kg/45lbs with no risk of damage to the boot/trunk lid. Think of this like standing or a frozen lake or skimming across it on your belly. One will cause thin ice to crack the other won’t

The Rack Frame :
This MX5 RF luggage rack is manufactured from 25mm/ 1" 6063-T5 tubing this is an aluminium and magnesium alloy ( it will never rust ) As a result the rack frame weighs only 1.672kg / 3.6lb perfect for the MK4's aluminium boot/trunk lid. The cross bars are machine welded in place to ensure consistency, the rack is powder coated black or hand polished and anodised. The frame measures 900x420mm / 36"x17"
Vacuum Cups ? :
Revo-Rack is secured to your MX5 RF using three 120mm vacuum cups. These are rated by the manufacturer as capable of holding an 18kg/40lb load each. These are not suction cups.
Vacuum cups employ the force of atmospheric pressure to grip a surface: These are not suction cups. Suction is what creates vacuum. Vacuum is the total absence of air whereas suction is the process done to achieve a vacuum. The grey buttons on the side of the cups pump the air out from the cup creating a huge securing force. When a vacuum exists between the cup and the surface on which it is attached, the weight of Earth's atmosphere holds the cup in place with incredible force. Unlike suction cups that produce a vacuum as they pull away from the surface, Revo-Racks vacuum cups use a hand-actuated pump to efficiently remove air from between the rubber pad and the attaching surface thus creating a much more secure hold.
The Revo-Racks vacuum cup's pump feature a pump button with a red line, which serves as a vacuum indicator. Introduced in the1960's, this safety device is still recognized as one of the most reliable warning systems available. A few strokes of the pump evacuate the vacuum pad, causing it to seal securely to the car. When the cup is attached completely, the plunger stops moving and the red line is hidden within the pump. A visible red line indicates if air has leaked back into the pad, making vacuum insufficient to use the cup. However, if the red line becomes visible while the cup is in use, a check valve allows you to re pump the cup without losing the remaining vacuum.
Lifting on the release tab near the edge of the pad allows air to refill the evacuated space, so that the vacuum cup detaches completely. Revo-Rack sits 7.5cm / 3" off the boot/trunk lid

Hi Liza,
Thank you! I just needed to move the front vacuum cup back to the center position. Now it works. And my trunk and hardtop work too, with the rack attached.
Your photos explained everything. Attached is a photo of my car

I was nervous going up the mountain with expensive skis, the first time, but it worked brilliantly...The Revo-Rack worked as advertised. Glad it allows me to keep getting up the mountain to ski.

Hello Liza,
First test yesterday, with a round trip of 2 times 90 km. No problem, it holds up well.
I can even monitor two of the three suction cups and the red mark from inside the Mazda thanks to the rearview mirror.
So here are some with the luggage rack installed on the trunk but empty.
Good week.

Perfect delivery times
I was skeptical but I must say that the suction cups hold perfectly!
I loaded a golf bag for over 2 hours going to 2000 meters high so even the pressure change did not create problems!

We have just completed our second long road trip with the Revo-Rack on the MX-5. This time we did 3,800km, mostly at high freeway speeds, but also plenty of curvy roads, and the rack held fast in all the wind blast and lots of lateral forces. Top up or top down, there was never a worry with the rack and luggage.
We couldn’t be happier with our purchase.

Huge shoutout to the people across the pond at Revo-Rack. They didn’t pay me or anything to endorse them, but the rack is honestly the best possible solution for adding storage capacity to the world’s favorite roadster. It left no marks and I am sure it would work well on other vehicles too. At around $300 the rack seemed expensive at first, but it worked flawlessly and even kept all that camping gear rock steady into triple digit speeds at one point. Plus it’s something that I’ll continue to use in the future.
Dear Anthony,
We are back in Holland after a trip of nearly 5000 KMS through France and Spain....You can see how we packed.
As you can see I used straps for extra safety. The revo-rack was doing very well only one time I had to pump one cup extra.
