Mazda MX5 MK4 Luggage Rack :
Revo-Rack Black £229.95 / $319 / 265€
Revo-Rack PA £269.95 / $385 / 320€
Revo-Rack is a completely new type of Mazda MX5 MK4 Luggage Rack that eliminates the risk of paint damage, caused by steel clamps or straps on the fragile boot/trunk lid edge. It also fits the RF ND and the roof can be operated with the rack fitted. We manufacture the Revo-Rack in two finishes powder coated black and the PA model which is hand polished and then anodised to prevent oxidisation.
Revo-Rack has been independently tested by TUV Italy part of the global TUV testing and certification business. The rack went through speed, braking and force tests, to ISO 11154:2006 the international standard for car roof bars and the European Directive for general safety 2002/95/CE. Revo-Rack passed all these tests : It won't fly off.
With the Revo-Rack car boot rack no metal touches your MX5/Miata only soft rubber vacuum cups these use the pressure of the atmosphere to secure the rack to your Mazda's boot or trunk, the rack sits on air. We are of course aware that Mazda suggests a maximum load of 10kg for their carbon fibre rack on the MK4/ND because of the cars aluminium boot/trunk lid. This clamps on a conventional rack with the weight of the rack and load spread over a very small area, approx 40 centimetres square or 16 inches square ; the footprint of the clamps on the edge of the boot/trunk.With the Revo-Rack the load is spread over a much greater area over three hundred centimetres square / 120 inches ; the footprint of the vacuum cups. Its spread load not a point load like a conventional rack, hence the rack can carry a greater load ( 20kg/45lbs ) with no risk of damage to the boot/trunk lid.

Why a Revo-Rack Mazda MX5 MK4 Luggage Rack
- No clamps on the fragile aluminium boot/deck lid edge
- No bolts
- No drilling
- No Straps across the boot/deck lid surface
- No paint damage
- Conceived, designed and engineered for the MK4/ND MX5/Miata and its aluminium boot/trunk lid
- Due to the 3-4mm panel gap on the MK4 its too small for a traditional clamp to fit, the 45 degree lip inside the boot/trunk makes this almost impossible.
- Revo-Racks load carrying capacity has been certified and tested by TUV Italy at 20kg / 45lbs
- No fiddly bolts clamps or straps to do up and fitted without tools
- Not immediately obvious how to release the rack from the boot/trunk lid - Impossible to pull off, therefore theft is difficult.
- If you do stop for a prolonged period and are concerned about your luggage we suggest you remove the rack and luggage and place it inside your car, a 30 second task.
- Supplied with two luggage straps and a cotton storage bag.
The Rack Frame :
This MX5 MK4 luggage rack is manufactured from 25mm/ 1" 6063-T5 tubing this is an aluminium and magnesium alloy ( it will never rust ) As a result the rack frame weighs only 1.672kg / 3.6lb perfect for the MK4's aluminium boot/trunk lid. The cross bars are machine welded in place to ensure consistency, the rack is powder coated black. The rack measures 900x420mm / 36"x17"
If you have a US Miata ND with the shark antenna fin on the trunk lid, you will need to make sure you order the USA specific model so the rack does not foul the Sirius antenna.
The Supports :
The rack is secured to your MX5's boot/trunk lid using three 120mm vacuum cups, rated by the manufacturer as capable of holding an 18kg/40lb load each.
Vacuum cups employ the force of atmospheric pressure to grip a surface: When a vacuum exists between the cup and the surface on which it is attached, the weight of Earth's atmosphere holds the cup in place with incredible force. Unlike suction cups that produce a vacuum as they pull away from the surface, Revo-Racks vacuum cups use a hand-actuated pump to efficiently remove air from between the rubber pad and the attaching surface thus creating a much more reliable hold. Because the full face of the pad is brought into contact with the surface, distortion is reduced, allowing the cup to be used with very little risk of damage.
The Revo-Racks vacuum cup's pump feature a plunger with a red line, which serves as a vacuum indicator. Introduced in the1960's, this safety device is still recognized as one of the most reliable warning systems available. A few strokes of the plunger evacuate the vacuum pad, causing it to seal securely to the attaching surface. When the cup is attached completely, the plunger stops moving and the red line is hidden within the pump. A visible red line indicates if air has leaked back into the pad, making vacuum insufficient to use the cup. However, if the red line becomes visible while the cup is in use, a check valve allows the user to re pump the cup without losing the remaining vacuum.
Lifting on the release tab near the edge of the pad allows air to refill the evacuated space, so that the vacuum cup detaches completely. The racks sits 7.5cm / 3" off the boot/trunk lid
We have just completed our second long road trip with the Revo-Rack on the MX-5. This time we did 3,800km, mostly at high freeway speeds, but also plenty of curvy roads, and the rack held fast in all the wind blast and lots of lateral forces. Top up or top down, there was never a worry with the rack and luggage.
We couldn’t be happier with our purchase.

We are back in Holland after a trip of nearly 5000 KMS through France and Spain....You can see how we packed.
As you can see I used straps for extra safety. The rack was doing very well only one time I had to pump one cup extra.
Huge shoutout to the people across the pond at Revo-Rack. They didn’t pay me or anything to endorse them, but the rack is honestly the best possible solution for adding storage capacity to the world’s favorite roadster. It left no marks and I am sure it would work well on other vehicles too. At around $300 the rack seemed expensive at first, but it worked flawlessly and even kept all that camping gear rock steady into triple digit speeds at one point. Plus it’s something that I’ll continue to use in the future.\
